The obelisk owes its birth to the ancient Egyptian civilization, but has been employed in the architecture of many cultures through the centuries up to today. The Egyptians believed that Ra, the Sun god, dwelled in them and used to place them in pairs at the entrance of the temples and at specific points in the cities in order to foster their fertility and the circle of benevolent energies. The city of Rome has 9 original Egyptian obelisks, which were subtracted during the conquest of Egypt. It is a handmade article, entirely produced in Italy.
